Level Up For 2026

February 03, 2026

Hard to believe,  but the first month of 2026 is wrapping up already. If you’re like most of us, you kicked off the year filled with the best intentions to take into the new year – goals and resolutions to level up your life. How are those going so far? A day at the Birmingham Home Show, running February 20-22 at the BJCC, can kick start or re-energize those resolutions.

Here’s how:

Goal: Touch Grass

Study after study has shown that digging in the dirt and filling your home with plants lowers stress and boosts mental clarity. If you want to turn your thumb green in 2026, check out the interactive DIY Plant Workshops at the show. Andrea Huff, owner of locally-owned PLANT Florals & Design is hosting fun, educational activities for plant lovers of all skill levels. Learn about planting, plant care and creative display ideas. Space is limited, so sign up early at Booth 2223 and reserve your spot. Bonus: Workshops include a take home project to show off your newly discovered plant guru status – and the workshops are free (with admission to show).

Goal: Spend Less Money on Food Delivery

Outside of getting healthier, saving money is one of the most common new year goals. If you’re looking to spend less money on Door Dash and Uber Eats, we’ve got you covered. The Hometown Flavor Cooking Stage is a home show tradition with a daily schedule of local chefs sharing their favorite recipes and cooking skills. These are intimate sessions where the audience is encouraged to ask questions. The more culinary skills you have, the less you have to rely on delivery apps for family dinner.

Bonus: Audience members get to sample after all the demos. Visit  Hometown Flavor Cooking Stage | Birmingham Home Show for the latest schedule so you can plot out your day.

Goal: Level Up Your Living Space

From entire room overhauls to small space paint jobs, those looking to level up their living spaces this year can learn from the “winningest couple on HGTV”, Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt from HGTV’s 100 Day Dream Home. They appear onstage at the show Friday and Saturday, sharing their story and answering audience questions. You’ll have access to two of the top talents in the country, and get their opinions on everything related to home design and building.

Bonus: If laughing more is on your list of new year’s intentions, you can kill two birds with one stone when you’re with Brian and Mika. Their dynamic onscreen and off is hilarious.

Goal: Pick Up A New, No Tech Hobby

Let’s face it, we could all stand to lower our screen time in 2026. In the market for a new hobby that doesn’t involve tech,  but does involve exercising your brain? Mahjong should be on your radar. The centuries-old tile game can seem intimidating, so try it out on a low-risk, no pressure basis with All About Mahj. Vestavia Hills resident McCauley Adams is hosting open play and short introductory lessons for beginners. Lessons and game play are on a first-come, first-served basis in Booth 2220. For a schedule of days and times, visit  www.birminghamhomeshow.com.

Bonus: Not only is Mahjong fun and mentally challenging (not to mention eye candy, have you seen those beautiful sets out there?), it’s a social game and a way to make new friends. You may leave the home show as a new member of Birmingham’s Mahjong League!

Goal: Work Smarter, Not Harder

Time is a non-renewable resource, so most people are looking for ways save more of it and to spend it wisely. The show can help there, too. Breeze past the box office (saving wait time and  a couple dollars too) when you purchase tickets in advance online at  Birmingham Home Show 2026. Another time saver? Having hundreds of home improvement experts all under one roof, allowing you to meet (and chat with) at the same time, paying off all the online research you’ve already done. Instead of driving from store to store, knock it all out in one visit.
